Humidity Control for Electronics and ESD Areas
Low humidity can increase electrostatic charging in electronics production, but humidity control must be applied together with grounding, wrist straps, conductive flooring, ionization and the facility ESD program. A humidifier is not a substitute for those controls.
The purpose of humidification is to keep the environment within the approved process range without wetting components, creating residue or causing condensation around cold equipment.
Confirm the approved RH range
Use the product, process and ESD-control specification for the facility. Avoid choosing a target only because another factory uses it.
Temperature and RH should be considered together. A stable moderate range is normally easier to control than large daily swings.
Use humidity as one layer of ESD control
Higher RH can help charge dissipate from many surfaces, but some insulating materials remain difficult to control. Maintain grounding, ionizers and personal protection according to the ESD plan.

Ventilation and process exhaust can dominate the moisture load. Provide room dimensions and airflow data when sizing the humidifier.
