Mist Maker Modules for Mushroom Fogging Systems

Mushroom growing rooms often require high and stable humidity, but dense fog alone does not guarantee a good environment. The system must distribute moisture around the growing area while avoiding standing water, dripping and poor air movement.

Mist maker modules are suitable for OEM builders who will provide the tank, fan, controls and hygiene design.

Define the room and growing stage

Provide room dimensions, temperature, target RH, fresh-air rate and growing stage. Pinning, fruiting and cleaning cycles may require different conditions.

The moisture load changes when doors open or fresh-air exchange increases.

Balance humidity with air exchange

Mushroom rooms need ventilation as well as humidity. High extraction can remove fog quickly, while insufficient air movement creates wet pockets and uneven conditions.

Coordinate humidifier output with the ventilation schedule.

Distribute fog evenly

Use ducts or circulation fans to move humid air through racks and growing beds. Avoid placing the outlet where droplets settle directly on mushrooms or substrate.

Check upper and lower rack levels during commissioning.

Water hygiene

Use water suitable for the growing operation and keep the tank covered. Organic debris and warm stagnant water can create hygiene problems.

Provide drainage, cleaning access and a routine sanitation method compatible with the module materials.

Tank and module design

Maintain stable water depth and protect against dry running. Keep the refill inlet away from the ceramic discs.

Use removable module mounts so the tank can be cleaned between cycles.

Sensors and control

Place RH sensors in representative air, away from direct fog and wet walls.

Several sensors may be useful in long rooms or multi-level racks. Use staged modules to avoid large RH swings.

Maintenance

Inspect scale, biofilm, fan airflow and sensor condition. Clean before output visibly falls.

Record the operating hours and water condition to set a realistic service interval.

Balance humidity with surface dryness

Mushroom rooms often require high relative humidity, but visible water on caps, shelving and walls can increase hygiene and disease risk. The fogging system should therefore produce moisture that is absorbed into the air before it settles. Good circulation, short control cycles and correct nozzle or module placement are more important than simply installing more output.

Plan around crop stage and room load

Freshly loaded rooms, pinning rooms and harvesting rooms may need different control settings. Heat from lighting, workers and ventilation also changes the moisture demand. During commissioning, log RH together with temperature and fan operation instead of judging the system from one handheld reading.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will ultrasonic fog wet the mushrooms?

It should not when the output and air distribution are correct. Direct discharge at racks or excessive output can cause wetting, so placement and control must be verified during commissioning.

Can one unit serve several growing rooms?

Separate rooms usually need independent control because door opening, crop load and ventilation differ. A shared system is possible only with properly designed ducts and zone control.

What water should be used?

Low-mineral clean water reduces white dust and scale. The final water specification should also meet the hygiene requirements of the facility.
